Probe claims that KLVC developers had close ties with Dr M, urges Puad Zarkashi

KUALA LUMPUR: Allegations that the owners of Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd, the developers of Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) have close ties with opposition leader Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, must be investigated.

Making the call today, Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said any parties involved in the ownership transfer and the prevalance of fraud, as alleged by Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Samad, must face the full brunt of the law.

Synergy Promenade is the company cited in the controversial ownership transfer of Felda land in Jalan Semarak for the KLVC development.

"Such revelations also contradict wild allegations made by (former Batu Kawan Umno division chief) Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan that foreigners were handed ownership of Felda land.

"Khairuddin's allegations are based on the identity card numbers of the two siblings involved (Noraini Soltan and Abd Rahman Soltan), which carry the numbers 71. He even lodged a police report over the matter," Mohd Puad told Berita Harian.

Puad said this was despite many opposition leaders such as PKR president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, PKR secretary general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution and Ampang member of parliament Zuraida Kamaruddin, all holding identity cards which bear the number 71.

He was commenting on allegations made by blogger Lim Sian See on his Facebook page that Synergy Promenade owners Noraini and Abd Rahman are close to Dr Mahathir's family.

Lim had alleged that Noraini was a successful entrepreneur who received financial support and training from Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), through which she developed her company Spiro Plastics in 1992, when Tun Ismail Mohd Ali, Dr Mahathir's brother in-law, was PNB chairman.

"With the help of PNB, that company grew and made Noraini a well-known vendor for Proton. She also often acted as organising chairman for Proton Vendors Association (PVA) activities," the blogger claimed.

Dr Mahathir was also said to be close to PVA and often discussed issues related to that association. His son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir is also alleged to have close links to Noraini.

Mohd Puad, who is also director general of the Special Affairs Department (JASA), said as such, the opposition should not be politicising Felda's Jalan Semarak land issue.

"Significantly, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has already ordered a forensic audit on the matter," said Mohd Puad.
