Malaysia condemns 'despicable' Kabul suicide bomb attack

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian government strongly condemns the heinous suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, on Thursday which killed at least 41 people and wounded more than 80 others.

In a statement on Friday, the Foreign Ministry said it hopes that the perpetrators of the despicable crime would be expeditiously identified and brought to justice.

"The government also expresses its deepest condolences and sympathies to the Afghanistan government and to the bereaved families,” it added.

In the Dec 28 attack, a suicide bomber detonated explosives near a cultural house belonging to Shia Afghans.

The Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack on its Amaq website, but provided no evidence of its claim.

Afghan president Ashraf Ghani called the attack a "crime against humanity".
