Dr M entitled to his opinion, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Muhamad Fuzi Harun has brushed off Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's claims that the police are being used to 'shield' the current administration.

Dr Mahathir, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman, made the claim during the party's AGM today.

Fuzi, in response, said the former prime minister was entitled to his opinion.

"That is his view. We cannot stop him from giving any comments," he said.

Dr Mahathir, in his speech, had claimed that Malaysians would get back their 'freedom of speech' if PPBM and Pakatan Harapan win the 14th General Election.

He claimed that should that happen, police would no longer be able to 'instruct' individuals to lodge reports so that they could launch investigations into trivial matters.
