REMBAU: A twelve-year old boy was found drowned and another two boys disappeared after they went swimming in Sungai Pedas in Kampung Merbau 9, here at 6.40pm today.
Acting district police chief Superitendent Nazruel Ekram Abu Shari said the body of Muhammad Iqqmal Haziq Muhammad Nozili was found in the river at 10.03pm.
He said the missing boys were identified as Muhammad Alis M Sadri and Muhamad Syafiq Rosli, both 15.
Nazruel said the three teenagers and another friend Haikal Najmi Azhar, also 15, went to the river at 4pm.
"Haikal said he finished swimming early and climbed onto the river bank as the others stayed in the river.
“The three boys struggled in the water as the current was swift before they were being swept away.”
Nazruel said police received a distress call at 6.40pm and soon after, 11 rescuers from the Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force were despatched to the scene.
At press time, efforts to locate the other two missing teenagers were on-going.
