Kelantan to consider Qatar's hudud law

KOTA BARU: Kelantan will consider adopting the template used by Qatar if it gets to implement the Hudud law.

Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the system applied in Qatar is among the best and is well documented.

“The Qatar model is also more modern and updated,” he said.

Mohd Amar said the state government would soon conduct another visit to Qatar to learn more of its Hudud law.

The state visited several middle eastern countries in 2014 to study how the syariah jurisprudence was operated.

The Kelantan Pas-led government decided to implement Hudud law in the state few years ago.

However, the implementation of the law is dependent on the success of the Private Member's Bill in Parliament that sought to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965.

The state government seeks to amend the Act as it prevents the state from enforcing the Hudud law, which is the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (Amendment 2015).
