Flood victims in Kemaman, Hulu Terengganu jumps up to 344 people

KUALA TERENGGANU: The number of flood victims has increased in the state as Kemaman and Hulu Terengganu continue to be lashed by heavy rain this evening.

The number of evacuees rose to 344 people from 114 families, and they are currently being housed at five flood relief centres in three districts, namely Kemaman, Hulu Terengganu and Dungun compared to just 281 people from 92 families at two centres in Dungun this morning.

Terengganu Civil Defence Department director Che Adam A Rahman said as of 6pm today 175 people from 65 families were moved to a multipurpose hall in Kampung Syukur and 77 people from 31 families sought shelter at a multipurpose hall in Kampung Pasir Raja, all in Dungun.

"23 people from four families were housed in a surau at Kampung Ban Ho, in Kemaman when their houses were submerged under 0.4 to 0.6 metres of floodwaters," he said.

Adam said 50 people from 13 families were evacuated to the Teladas multipurpose hall, while 18 people from five families were housed at Surau Haji Othman in Kampung Seberang Tayor, Hulu Terengganu.
