KOTA BARU: Kelantan state government is considering taking legal action against Salor assemblyman Datuk Husam Musa over remarks made during `Bicara Anak Kelantan' forum here last week.
State Public Works, Infrastructure, Utility and Information Technology committee chairman Datuk Hanifa Ahmad claimed Husam, in the forum, had wrongly accused the state government of terminating the contract for the 10km bridge project with Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB).
"I would like to explain that the state government did not end the three-year contract with the company. Instead, we had signed a mutual agreement with JKSB because the company told us that its subsidiary handling the project, could not proceed due to certain reasons.
"We (the state government) accepted the reason and signed the mutual agreement with the condition that the state government pay RM50 million to the company for the eight-month works (for the project)," he told reporters after the state exco meeting here today.
Hanifa said following the agreement, the state government appointed a new company to handle the project.
"Therefore, the issue that the state government has 'ended' JKSB's contract does not arise and Husam, as a veteran politician, should not have made such wild and slanderous accusation," he said.
Hanifa added that another concern was that Husam was seen showing off a document which he claimed had been signed by Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob and state secretary Datuk Mohd Faudzi Che Mamat to support his claim.
"We will study the matter and I have informed our lawyer to investigate how did such an important document was released.
"If any of our officers are involved, we will take a stern action against them for leaking a government's secret.
"Our lawyer will study the YouTube video (on the forum) as reference before deciding whether to take legal action or lodge a police report on the matter." he said.
