BACHOK: A salesman lost the RM5,000 dowry for his wedding, which he had been saving since last year, when his house in Kampung Aril near Pauh Lima caught fire on Monday.
The fire also left 24-year-old Muhamad Syahman Kauzi, his parents and his two siblings homeless.
"I have been saving the money since early last year,” said Syahman whose wedding was to take place on Feb 5.
"However, I was lucky that I have sent all the ‘hantaran’ (wedding gifts) to my future wife's house. Otherwise, I will have to buy the gifts again,” he said, adding that a portion of the wedding invitation cards were also destroyed in the fire.
"Despite this, we will continue with the wedding even though it won’t be as grand as we had planned," said Syahman.
