4 NGOs form #Tebas2018 campaign to combat illegal activities

SHAH ALAM: Four non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have joined forces to form the #Tebas2018 campaign, geared towards combating and eradicating illegal activities plaguing the country.

The NGOs involved are Pertubuhan Permuafakatan Majlis Ayahanda Malaysia (Permas), Pertubuhan Gagasan Pembela dan Pelindung Kebajikan Ummah Malaysia (Gagah), Kesatuan Melayu Nasional (KMN 333) and Majlis Bendahara Malaysia.

Tebas 2018 Movement chief coordinator Yahya Long Ali said the team aims to help authorities, especially the police and Immigration Department, to curb illegal activities such as gangsterism, Ah Long (illegal moneylenders), as well as the influx of illegal immigrants and massage parlours serving as prostitution dens.

Yahya, who is also Gagah president, said the movement would send its members to the ground to identify hotspots.

“We will investigate and gather evidence of illegal activities at a particular location. We will then notify the authorities and join them during raids and operations.

“We strongly believe it is our responsibility to play our part in eradicating these negative activities that bring no good to the people and our children.

“We urge members of the public to report to us or the police should they come across illegal activities in their neighbourhoods,” he said in a press conference here today.

Yahya said three #Tebas2018 hotlines would be launched soon for the public to lodge complaints.

Tebas chairman Datuk Khairul Khuzaini Zamsani said the movement would continue to champion its cause and work round-the-clock until these issues were brought to the attention of authorities.

As for now, he said, the movement focused on eradicating illegal activities in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur with three key agendas in mind – to curb illegal moneylenders, illegal immigrants, as well as gambling dens and massage parlours.
