Pekan, the only flood-hit district in Pahang

KUANTAN: Pekan remains the only flood-hit district in Pahang with 254 evacuees, as the relief centre in Raub was closed this afternoon.

State Civil Defence Force director Colonel Zainal Yusoff said 30 people from nine families, who were evacuated to a relief centre in Ulu Dong following flash floods on Tuesday, were allowed to return in stages after the floods completely receded today.

He said the 254 victims from 67 families in Pekan were in five relief centres namely SK Temai, SK Acheh, Pulau Manis relief centre, Tanjung Pulai hall and Kampung Lamir relief centre.

"The weather has improved and the water level at major rivers in the district is slowly receding.

"Continuing promising weather will allow the victims to return home in the next few days," he said.

At the height of the floods, more than 8,000 people across the state were evacuated.
