Pahang records slight rise in evacuees, three districts hit in 2nd wave

KUANTAN: The number of flood evacuees in Pahang recorded a slight increase, despite clear skies in several districts here.

As of 5pm, the number of flood victims in the state rose to 1,393 people from 383 families compared to 1,075 people in the morning. Yesterday, Pahang had 749 evacuees.

A state Civil Defence Force (APM) spokesman said Rompin has replaced Maran as the worst hit district with 622 victims from 194 families at 10 relief centres followed by Maran with 478 victims from 111 families at eight relief centres.

"Pekan has 293 victims from 78 families at eight relief centres. All the three districts recorded a slight increase of evacuees today compared to last night," he said.

Meanwhile, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail advised those living in flood prone areas to immediately evacuate to the nearest temporary flood relief centre in case their homes are inundated.

"Following the return of the floods, I would like to remind the public to vacate their homes when advised to do so by the authorities. Such measures are vital to avoid any untoward incidents.

"The Pahang government through the state Disaster Management Committee have made all the necessary arrangements for the flood evacuees. To date, three districts have been hit by floods.

"Due to the uncertain weather and floods, motorists should always check on the roads that are passable to allow them to plan their journeys. They can visit the Pahang Public Works Department Facebook page for regular updates," he wrote on Facebook.
