Over 150k smallholders, rubber tappers yet to apply for Monsoon Aid

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Rubber Board (LGM) has urged smallholders and rubber tappers who have not applied for Monsoon Aid to send in their applications before Jan 31.

LGM’s policy and operational deputy director general Dr Suarni Sumormo said 158,575 smallholders and rubber tappers nationwide have yet to apply for the aid.

"Since Sept 30, a total of 500,730 smallholders and rubber tappers have been registered with us, and of that number, 483,941 farmers are eligible to apply for the aid.

"However, up till Jan 9 this year, only 325,366 smallholders and rubber tappers have received the aid, and they include 29,023 smallholders with immature plantations," he said at a press conference for the implementation of the BMT at the LGM's Natural Rubber Building here on Thursday.

Announced in the 2017 Budget, the Monsoon Aid was created to benefit 440,000 smallholders and rubber tappers nationwide.

Those who have yet to apply can do so via LGM’s website: http://bmt.lgm.gov.my/home/application
