Another rubber tapper dies in tiger attack in Gua Musang

GUA MUSANG: Another man has been mauled by a tiger here, bringing the number of people killed here since last month to three.

District police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the latest incident occurred yesterday at a rubber smallholding in Meranto here.

He said the victim was a 22-year-old Myanmar national.

He added the victim was tapping rubber with his wife at Meranto estate when he was attacked at about 1.30pm.

"With the help of several workers, the victim who suffered serious injuries was brought to Gua Musang hospital.

"He died while being treated at the hospital's emergency unit. Doctors have confirmed that he died due to severe head injuries," he said in a statement.

He added police have classified the case as sudden death.

"The wildlife department has set up camera trap to nab the tiger," he added.

The incident was the second recorded within two days, and the third incident since last month.

On Friday (Nov 10), a 42-year-old Indonesian national, known as Lalu Sukarya Yahya, also a rubber tapper, died after he was mauled to death by a tiger at Kuala Wok near Pos Pasik here.

His body was found by a villager in the forest reserve.

Last month, a 25-year-old Orang Asli man was mauled to death by a tiger also in Pos Pasik.

Pisie Amud was reported missing on Oct 4 when he did not return home after going to a nearby village a day before.

His remains were found by villagers with injuries all over his head and body on Oct 5.
