Bringing back childhood memories through traditional games

SHAH ALAM: It brings back childhood memories for Lee Junyin who took part playing the traditional game called congkak at the Gegaria Fest here today.

"It's been a while since I played congkak, and when I play it now it brings back memories of the time I played the game with my siblings when we were young," said the 27-year-old sales engineer.

What makes it attractive is that the public can play congkak on a huge congkak board that stands on two old sewing machines compared to the small traditional board.

"This is my first time playing congkak standing up and its huge board.

"Normally we sit on the floor to play the game. I've never seen a congkak board that is this huge before.

"It is very interesting and at the same time, tiring," she said.

Lee Junyin played the game with her friend, Tan Ai Lee, 35.

Meanwhile it was Hidayatullah Mohd Ali's first time playing congkak.

"My friend taught me to play just now and I did not think it was easy.

"I"ve also never seen a congkak board this big before," said the 24-year-old student.

The brand new lifestyle festival organised by Media Prima Bhd promotes space and opportunities to connect and share inspiration with the society, especially among the youngesters.

The one-day fest is divided into five main zones which are #Gegaria Makan-Makan, #Gegaria Throwback Tunnel, #gegaria Lifestyle, #Gegaria Community and #Gegaria Entertainment.

Among other physical challenges made available for the public at the #Gegaria Entertainment booth are Takraw, Hopskotch and Shrinky Dinks.
