Netizens irked by Terengganu exco member's video on flood reminiscing childhood memories

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu executive council member Dr Azman Ibrahim's posting on social media platform X to reminisce the memories of his childhood playing in the floodwaters has not gone down well with netizens.

The timing of his posting appears inappropriate as the east coast state has been hit by floods since last week with some 9,000 people evacuated.

His posting was accompanied by a 19-second video of two men riding a motorcycle while they pulled a young boy seated on a water storage tank cover across the flood waters.

In the video, Azman, who is the state Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Food Security and Commodities committee chairman, was seen wading through the murky ankle-deep flood waters as he watched the trio having fun.

The Jabi assemblyman wrote a caption for the video saying "childhood memory... enjoy your childhood as much as you can. If time could be turned back, Pak Cik Man(referring to himself) wants to go back to this time.

X user @PlatoHitam condemned his action saying it appears that Azman was trying to promote such dangerous activities which should be avoided during the floods.

"Judging by this (posting), we can conclude that the flood issues in Terengganu has never been settled since he (Azman) was a child and an elected representative should look at solving the flood problems but he appears to let the issue persist to create childhood memory," read the comment.

Meanwhile, Skudai assemblyman Marina Ibrahim, described the posting as extremely irresponsible saying it was sending the wrong message as people at flood hit areas might feel it is fine to play in the floods as an experience.

"How in case someone drowns or an untoward incident occurs?" she asked on X.
