Indian political parties, NGOs must unite to ensure people's support - DPM

BAGAN DATUK: Indian political parties and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) must be united in garnering more support from the people towards the government.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the support by the Indian community was essential in ensuring that programmes and initiatives to help them such as the Malaysian Indian Blueprint could be implemented without problem.

"The government will continue to help the Indian community, but it will be difficult if they were not united.

"The opposition will definitely come here during election campaign period and speak badly of the government. That's what they do every five years (during general elections)," he said.

This, he said, despite the various development brought to the constituency including Mara Junior Science College, community college and infrastructure.

"Some of us got upset with the government after listening to what the opposition said.

"They (opposition leaders) then returned home (their constituencies). They won't even help any of us here. The government, on the other hand, continued serving and working for the people," he said in his speech at a Ponggal celebration in Rungkup today.
