State Assembly sitting in April ... if polls not called by then

KUALA TERENGGANU: The State Legislative Assembly may hold its first sitting in April before the 14th general election, Speaker Datuk Zuber Embong said.

“The parliament will have its next sitting in March and may proceed for a couple of months. If the dissolution is announced at the end of the session, then Terengganu can have the opening of the State Assembly in April.

“I will have a meeting convened with the ex-officio and Executive Councillors, including the Menteri Besar, in a couple of weeks. We will know by then but I am pretty sure that we will have one assembly before the general election,” he said.

However, he said it would all depend on the decision made in parliament.

“If the dissolution in announced in March, then we may have to wait (to hold an assembly sitting) until the general election is over,” he added.

In the past, the opening of the new session of the State Legislative Assembly sitting was held in April by the Sultan Of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin.

On the general election, Zuber said no general election had been easy for any party contesting for seats.

“It is going to be tough for everyone. The political landscape has changed and with it comes new challenges,” he added.
