Regent of Pahang upset individuals conferred state awards not upholding ethical code

KUANTAN: Individuals with the titles of Datuk Seri and Datuk conferred by the Pahang palace should be aware of the weight behind these awards.

The Regent of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah today expressed his regret with certain individuals including artists, with Datuk Seri and Datuk titles, getting on the wrong side of the law.

He had said that when these individuals are conferred with the titles, they should realise it comes with conditions and ethical code.

"If you ask me, I want to revoke all the awards. I am disappointed if there are individuals with the Datuk titles, who go against the law," he told reporters after visiting victims whose homes were destroyed in a fire at Taman Sungai Isap 2 here today.

Their premises were razed on Tuesday evening.

On Tuesday, popular actor and director Datuk Farid Kamil Zahari claimed trial to four charges including causing grievous hurt, committing indecent behaviour and using criminal force against a public servant.

The 37-year-old was conferred the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (DIMP) which carries the Datuk title at Istana Abu Bakar, Pekan on Dec 16 last year.

Tengku Abdullah said if there were incidents concerning the violation of ethical code, he urged the committee to take appropriate action.

"I do not wish to punish anyone with the Datuk title if they commit any offence. However, if there are those who are aware of their act and want to return the royal awards, then that will be more polite.

"We do not want to punish any quarters but it is they themselves who have made a mistake," he said.
