7 siblings in a family are junkies

KANGAR: Four brothers in Kampung Syed Omar were detained for drugs abuse, three months after their three sisters were caught for failing a drug test.

The men, aged between 17 and 30, were detained during a raid by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) on Monday evening.

Perlis Nada director Azizah Ahmad said, acting on a tip-off, the agency carried out the raid at the house about 11pm.

She said all the siblings, aged between 17 and 30, tested positive of methamphetamine.

"In October, we had carried out a raid at the same house and their three sisters tested positive for methamphetamine abuse.

"In fact, the three sisters are still waiting for the second urine test results from the authorities following their arrest in October," she said in a statement.

She said the raiding team were shocked to have discovered that the four brothers in the family also tested positive for drugs abuse, and learned that one of them had just picked up the bad habit.

Azizah said during the raid, the siblings' mother, in her 60s, was at home.

"The mother is devastated as two of her sons had been detained for the same offence previously and are currently placed under Nada's probation," she said.

Besides the four brothers, Nada had also rounded up 12 junkies aged between 17 and 50 in separate raids at drug haunts in Kuala Perlis, Batu Pahat, Utan Aji, Kampung Binjal, Behor Mali and Permatang Kersik here.

She said the two-day raid, which ended yesterday, were jointly carried out with the Malaysia Border Security Agency (Aksem).
