Flash flood damages goods sold by 20 traders

KOTA BARU: More than 20 traders operating near the Sultan Muhammad lV stadium suffered huge losses after a flash flood hit the area yesterday.

The traders who sell various kind of goods claimed that poor drainage system was the reason for the flash flood.

Carpet seller Alimuddin Musa said it was the third flash flood this year.

"If continuous heavy rain hits the state, flash floods occur and the water enters our shop about 0.5m high.

"I lost about RM100,000 when all my carpets and blankets were damaged. I have to auction some of the goods," he said when met at his shop today.

The 50-year-old who has been operating the shop for about 15 years urged Kota Baru Municipal Council to take drastic measures to prevent a repeat incident.

Tailor Rogayah Isa said the Kelantan Pas-led government must look into this problem seriously as it affects local traders.

"We do not want to suffer more losses in future and the state government as well as the council must do something quickly," said the 42-year-old.
