RM937mil worth of property saved by Melaka Fire and Rescue Dept

AYER KEROH: A total of RM937.1 million worth of property has been saved by the Melaka Fire and Rescue Department last year.

Its state director Kamarulzaman Malik Abdullah said the figures, however, dropped compared with 2016’s figure of about RM1.5 billion worth of assets saved by the department.

“The decrease in the value of assets saved is aligned with the decline in number of emergency calls made from 2,465 in 2016 to to 1,150 calls last year.

“Total rescue cases stood at 2,651 last year, compared with 1,839 in 2016,” he said at the Ayer Keroh station here today.

Kamarulzaman said RM32,673,351 worth of property was destroyed during the fire last year, compared with RM34,274,799 for the same period in 2016.

He said four central tahfiz centres in the state were upgrading its fire safety system through allocations from the federal government.

“State Fire and Rescue Department will be responsible for the final inspection of the safety system implemented by GiatMARA, which is expected to be completed this March,” he said.

At the event, certificates of appreciation were presented to it’s strategic partners, including the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, state marine police and media agencies, including Berita Harian, Utusan Malaysia, Sinar Harian, China Press and RTM.
