More than 10,000 people benefit from assist programme

KOTA BELUD: More than 10,000 people have benefitted from Assists the People 2.0 programme by state Umno welfare bureau since Tuesday.

The project started in Libaran and moved to Batu Sapi, Semporna, Tenom, Beaufort before ending here today.

It included several events including health screening and opening accounts of National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN-i) for students.

Sabah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said the programme was in line with the party’s struggle which was to form a government that could assist the people.

“This programme goes along with the party's concept to work 24 hours to help everyone regardless of their backgrounds.

“It is our principle and we will not become like other parties who only want to compete when general election is coming,” he said, adding Umno, as the ruling government, will continue to give the best to the people.

Salleh, who is also Umno Treasurer and Communications and Multimedia Minister, was speaking after launching the programme here.

Present was the party Welfare Bureau chairman Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah who also presented a mock cheque for RM120,000 for food supply.

“This programme is to assist the people. If we are close to the people, they will be close to us," said Shamsul.
