Flood situation in Kg Juntai Simpang Durian improves

JELEBU: The flood situation in Kampung Juntai Simpang Durian here has improved and the seven families who were evacuated to a relief centre nearby are expected to return home today.

Jelebu district Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Md Marisa Aminuddin said water levels have receded and only one house was still inundated with water.

“We have begun helping the villagers clean their homes and if the weather continues to improve, they will be allowed to return home this evening,” he said here today.

Yesterday night’s storm brought heavy rain that lasted for three hours and caused flash floods in several low-lying areas, especially villages near the river.

A total of 28 people from seven families were evacuated to a temporary relief centre by APM personnel, firefighters, police officers and People’s Volunteer Corps personnel.

Pertang state assemblyman Datuk Jalaluddin Alias, who is also state Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government committee chairman, paid a visit to the flood victims earlier this morning.

He donated food and visited the surrounding area to examine the aftermath of the flood.
