KOTA BARU: The flood situation in Kelantan has improved slightly, with only three relief centres open and one closed today.

The centre that was closed was SK Kedai Tanjong in Pasir Mas.

The other three that remained opened were SK Tok Deh, SMK Beris Panchor and SK Jelawat.

A total of 317 victims from 101 families were still taking shelter at the three centres as of 8am.

As at 9.15am this morning, the Golok river in Tumpat remained above its warning level of 8.11m which is 0.11m above the 8m warning mark.

Another river - the Semerak river in Pasir Puteh also recorded above its alert level while other main river in Kelantan had receded.

Floods in the state have so far claimed two victims - a 23 month-old boy and a nine-year-old student.

Both drowned in separate incidents in Kota Baru district between Nov 26 and Nov 28.

The first victim was the boy who drowned after he fell into the river at Kampung Kenali on Nov 26.

On Nov 28, the student was found drowned after he fell into an irrigation canal at Kampung Derdap.

Meanwhile, many enthusiasts took the opportunity of the sunny weather yesterday evening to catch freshwater fish at stagnant water pond in Rantau Panjang.

They managed to catch fish such as keli and haruan and later sold them along the road.
