More Wifi hotspots to be available in all districts in Johor by Feb 1

JOHOR BARU: More Wifi hotspots will be made available all over Johor with the implementation of JCorp Wifi, an initiative under Johor Corporation (JCorp).

A total of 768 JCorp Wifi hotspots in all districts will be ready for the public to connect to by Feb 1.

The installation of JCorp Wifi at the district level will be made in stages and maintained by JCorp at a cost of RM10 million a year for the next five years.

The JCorp Wifi, which is part of the 12 corporate initiatives undertaken by JCorp, will compliment the 135 Johor Free Wifi hotspots that was launch early last year by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The 135 Johor Free Wifi hotspots, which is provided by the state government at a cost of RM12.9 million, has been installed in selected areas, like recreational parks and at each local council office in the state.

The JCorp Wifi project was launched today by Khalid during his walkabout at the newly refurbished Larkin Sentral bus terminal.

"The initiative is part of making Johor a digital state in the future as we embrace the advancement of technology and digital economic transformations."

On the Larkin Sental bus terminal facelift, Khaled said the state government was satisfied with the progress of the project, which started over a year ago.

"The total development cost for the terminal facelift is about RM85 million and we have already spent RM15.7 million on completing the first phase of the project, which comprises of new bus platforms, air-conditioned passenger waiting area, installation of the e-ticketing system and improving the overall facade of the terminal," he said.

Khaled said the next phase of the project would be the construction of a multi-storey public parking building which offers over 900 parking bays.

"The terminal is visited by almost 30,000 people daily. Some are travelling to their destinations by bus, while others come to shop at the stores inside the terminal complex.

"With the terminal upgraded, it will bring more convenience and comfort to every visitor here," he said.
