Businessman unhurt after armed robbery near Bachok

BACHOK: Robbers opened fire at a businessman today and escaped with his four-wheel-drive vehicle near his home in Kampung Tiong.

Police said in the 6.55am incident, the victim was about to leave the house when the robbers, all wearing masks, approached him.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan said according to the victim, the men came in a Proton Saga.

"They blocked his car before one of them smashed the 4WD's side window with a parang.

"The victim tried to fight them off but one of the robbers opened fire. Luckily, none of the shots hit him.

"While the victim ran for cover, the robbers drove off with the victim's 4WD vehicle."

In an unrelated matter, Hasanudin said Kelantan police are making all the necessary preparation for the 14th General Election (GE14).

He said briefing session and training have already being conducted, adding that the state police would be receiving an additional 1,300 personnel for the election.

"Apart from that, the state police will also organise simulation on general elections for two days beginning tomorrow.

"We could not disclose the venue for the training as it has been set up by the higher level (of the force).

"However, we hope the public will not be alarmed if they see policemen in certain areas in the next few days." he said.
