We treat everyone equally when it comes to foreign investments, says Zahid

HULU SELANGOR: The federal government has never discriminate when it comes to attracting and distributing foreign investments, including to opposition-controlled Selangor and Penang.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said if it was true that the federal government is being unfair, most of the foreign investments would have gone to constituencies such as Bagan Datuk in Perak or Jeli in Kelantan, which is under International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

The Home Minister also slammed the opposition leaders for claiming that all foreign investments in Selangor and Penang were the result of the state governments' own efforts, without giving credit to various agencies and government-linked companies that helped realised it.

"We can see that the development in Selangor today is proof of how some (state governments) are 'sharing' the efforts made by the federal government.

"We do not differentiate between states governed by the opposition or BN.

"For the good of the nation, foreign investments are being distributed wherever they are needed. Don't anyone claim that such were only of their own doing," he said at the groundbreaking ceremony of a metal surface treatment plant for the aerospace industry at the UMW High Value Maunufacturing Park here today.

Meanwhile, on the aerospace industry, he said it is a new industry that promises great potential to generate income for the country.

Zahid said in 2016, the aerospace industry generated RM12.7 billion in revenue and employed over 21,000 skilled workers compared to RM12.2 billion with 20,000 skilled workers in 2015 involving over 200 companies.

“Trading involving aerospace products reaches RM17.47 billion. The value of aerospace products exported registered an increase of 32.6 per cent to RM5.53 billion in 2016." he said.
