TEMERLOH: A total of 100 daily necessities of various brands will be sold below market prices at Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia 2.0 (KR1M 2.0) stores for the benefit of the people.
Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said as of now, 50 daily necessities selling at a lower price include rice, flour, cooking oil, Milo, canned drinks, baby diapers, instant noodles, and formula milk.
“As a start, 50 of various daily necessity items were sold at affordable price and we are targetting to achieve 100 items in the near future.
“This will help to alleviate the people’s burden and assist them to get branded and quality items at a lower price,” he said this at a press conference after the launch of KR1M 2.0 by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at the TMG Mall here today.
Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob; Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob; and Pahang Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin.
Hamzah said KR1M 2.0 was a redevelopment from KR1M where its has been redesigned to be more open, competitive, and could accommodate more retailers.
“It’s new business model based on three cores, namely strategic cooperation between the government and the manufacturers, producers and distributors, business operation and rebranding,” he said.
KR1M, a government-owned chain of convenience stores which started in 2011, was handled by Mydin which operated most outlets.
In September last year, the ministry had announced the closure of KR1M to make way for KR1M 2.0.
