PADANG TERAP: All schools under the Education Ministry must adhere to a circular stipulating the days off for Chinese New Year holidays this year.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid hoped no schools would contravene the circular, but ensure all students and teachers had a break during the CNY holidays.
"The deputy Education director had issued the circular stipulating that Feb 15 dan 19 are CNY holidays so please adhere to this directive.
"This is a directive by the ministry so abide by it," he said here today.
Mahadzir, who is also Padang Terap Member of Parliament, said this when asked to comment on a statement by the National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP) which had asked the minister to intervene in cases where heads of educational instutions had refused to abide by the circular.
NUTP secretary-general Harry Tan Huat Hock had received complaints from teachers and lecturers that the heads of their educational institutions had issued directives contravening the ministry's circular.
NUTP had hoped the issue would be given due consideration to ensure misunderstandings did not arise.
