Education ministry assures safety, security at all institutions under its purview

PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry has assured the safety and security of students in public education institutions, following a bomb scare at several international schools yesterday.

The ministry in a statement today said it viewed the matter seriously and always prioritised the safety of teachers, students and workers of education institutions under its management.

"The close cooperation between the ministry and the police guarantees security in all educational institutions. The ministry is also committed to ensuring the well-being, safety and welfare of teachers, students and all those under its management.

"All the institutions are requested to comply with the security procedures that have been set. Any security threat must be reported immediately to both, police and the ministry," it said.

Yesterday 19 international schools in Selangor, Penang, Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan received bomb threats via email, causing a sudden chaos at the affected schools.

Security agencies scrambled to calls of distress and combed the schools for any possible explosives but found nothing.

Later in the evening, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that the bomb scare was fake and advised parents to remain calm.

Police are still investigating the case and the motive behind the false bomb threats.
