KOTA KINABALU: Those who wish to hold fireworks displays for Chinese New Year within the Eastern Sabah Safety Zone (Esszone), are advised to inform and provide details to the authorities.
Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) commander Datuk Hazani Ghazali, in a statement, said, this was to avoid confusion and ensure security measures are in place to maintain peace in the east coast.
"We understand that the festive season will usually be accompanied with fireworks especially at tourist resorts, as well as islands in Esszone areas.
"Esscom advises all governmental and non-governmental bodies, resort operators, as well as individuals in this area to abide by the existing law for safety and security purposes," he said.
Hazani added those who have received approval for the use of fireworks must inform the police and security control posts in respective districts by providing the date, time and location they wish to organise fireworks displays.
Esszone comprises 10 districts, namely Kudat, Kota Marudu, Pitas, Beluran, Kinabatangan, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna and Tawau.
