EPF fire: Jalan Gasing building closed until further notice [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The Employees Provident Fund’s (EPF) Petaling Jaya office in Jalan Gasing will be closed until further notice following a fire at the building this afternoon.

EPF’s corporate affairs department, in a statement, said its Crisis Response Team is working closely with the Fire and Rescue Department, to ensure that the fire does not spread to any other floors or surrounding areas.

“As safety of customers and staff is our prime concern, total evacuation of the building has been taken, and office and counter services are closed until further notice,” read the statement.

EPF also assured its members that there has been no compromise to data integrity or members savings in any manner.

“We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops and will provide an update once the branch is back in operations,” it said.

Members and employers who wish to perform any transactions with the EPF are advised to contact or visit the nearest EPF branch. They may also call the EPF Contact Management Centre at 03-8922 6000 or forward their enquiries via myEPF website at http://enquiry.kwsp.gov.my.

The blaze is believed to have started around noon.

No casualties were reported, nor were there any injuries. Those in the six-storey building when the fire broke out were believed to have managed to evacuate safely.

It is understood that the fire may have started on the first floor at the back of the building, where some renovation work was being conducted.

The fire as well as the thick smoke could be seen from as far away as Bangsar. The scene brought traffic to a standstill along the Federal Highway, with onlookers snapping pictures and videos.
