US ambassador to Malaysia visits NSTP headquarters [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The United States Ambassador to Malaysia Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir paid a courtesy call to the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) office today.

Lakhdhir arrived at NSTP’s Balai Berita Bangsar at 10.30am, accompanied by the embassy’s Press Attaché Morgan O’ Brien and Senior Information Specialists, Leni Abd Latif and Hisham Selamat.

The ambassador was greeted by NSTP Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Abdul Jalil Hamid, NSTP Editor-in-Chief Datuk Yushaimi Yahaya, Senior Executive Editor (convergence) Saidon Idris and Executive Editor (convergence) Thilinadan Muniandy.

Also present was NSTP chairman Tan Sri Ismail Omar.

In the hour-long closed-door meeting, Lakhdir was briefed by Abdul Jalil on the new convergence system adopted by NSTP as well as on other products and services provided by the company for its massive audience throughout the country.

Also present during the meeting were New Straits Times Executive Editor Muzli Mohd Zin and NSTP (convergence) Foreign Desk News Editor V. Ashok.

Among the matters discussed were US-Malaysia ties, media digitalisation, the future of the print industry, the global move in curbing extremism as well as on the Rohingya and Palestine conflicts.

After the meeting, Lakhdhir and her entourage toured the NSTP's newsroom and resource centre.

Lakhdhir was appointed as the US Ambassador to Malaysia on June 16, 2016.

She joined the Foreign Service in 1991, serving first at the US Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 1992 until 1994 and then at the US Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia from 1994 to 1996.

Previously, she was the Executive Assistant to the US’ Under Secretary for Political Affairs from Nov 2011 until Oct 2015.
