Former veteran NST journalist Khalil Md Zain dies of cancer

SEREMBAN: Former New Straits Times, Berita Harian and TV3 journalist Khalil Md Zain died early today of Stage Four lymphoma at his house in Taman Bukit Kelana, Senawang.

His 63-year-old wife, Jamilah Aziz, and eight children aged between 19 and 41, were at his side when he died at midnight.

His eldest son, Johari Khalil, said Khalil, 66, was diagnosed with cancer in September and his health had gradually declined.

“Last month, the doctors confirmed that the cancer had reached Stage Four and the chemotherapy he was undergoing at Ampang Hospital in Selangor was not helping. He was in the hospital’s intensive care unit but asked to be taken home last night.

“After maghrib prayers yesterday, my father became even weaker and lost consciousness about 9.30am. A doctor declared him dead at midnight.”

Khalil was buried at the Senawang Muslim cemetery.
