PM hopes Chinese New Year heralds good results for government [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has expressed hope that the Chinese New Year will lead to an "encouraging result" for the ruling party in the 14th general election.

Najib, who was commenting on Barisan Nasional's expectations at the polls this year, also pointed out that the country's economy grew 5.9 per cent last year.

"Hopefully, the Chinese New Lunar Year will lead to an encouraging outcome for the government.

"The people's happiness is palpable, especially when the economy is growing, stock (values) are appreciating, and confidence in the country's future (is strengthening).

"This Chinese New Year is celebrated in an atmosphere of mirth and merriment," Najib said during an interview with TV3 at the MCA Chinese New Year open house today.

Also present at the event was Najib's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam and MyPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas.
