Mosque in Tasek Gelugor organises Chinese New Year open house

TASEK GELUGOR: A mosque in Tasek Gelugor has organised a Chinese New Year open house for the first time to join in the festivities of the Chinese community in the area.

Although the event which was organised by the community of Masjid Jamek was brief and simple, the celebration was lively with the attendance of multiracial guests.

Factory supervisor, Tan Chooi Teit, 51, said he was happy to receive the invitation from the mosque.

He said the invitation was very meaningful as he had always admired the unique architecture of a mosque, but never had a chance to visit.

"When I got this invitation, I was so overwhelmed," he said when met here yesterday.

For fitness trainer, Ooi Chooi Beng, 36, the uniqueness of the mosque encouraged him to get closer to Islam and he converted five months ago.

He added that this initiative by the mosque should be emulated.

Meanwhile, Masjid Jamek Tasek Gelugor chairman Khairul Anuar Musa said the programme was to create awareness that mosques were not only for Muslims alone.

"The mosque can be used as a gathering space for all races and religious communities as long as it does not contradict with Islamic law.

"We love to share the beauty of Islam with other races and religions," he said.
