Two friends drown at Berkelah waterfall

KUANTAN: The bodies of two friends who drowned while bathing at the Berkelah Recreational Forest Waterfall near here have been recovered this morning.

State Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Mohd Sani Harul said the bodies of Muhammad Shahfaris Shahri and Azfan Muhammad, both 22, from Pandamaran, Selangor were recovered at about 8.10am.

He said the duo, along with 10 other friends, had gone to the waterfall on Monday afternoon before they were reported missing at about 3pm.

“A search and rescue team found the bodies not far from the spot they were last seen,” he said, adding that the water was as deep as 12m.

“Six personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department's Underwater Rescue Team, along with firemen from the Kuantan Fire and Rescue Department, joined the search and rescue operation,” he said today.
