More than half a million of employment opportunities in Sabah since 2010: Rahman Dahlan

KOTA KINABALU: Some 553,000 employment opportunities were created since 2010 thanks to the Federal and state government efforts in drawing investments into the state.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the move was to spur the livelihood for the people of Sabah, and this has been proven by an increase in household income.

“The monthly household income in Sabah has doubled from RM2,087 in 2009 to RM4,123 at present,” he said when launching the IMPAK18 Teraju programme roadshow here today.

According to the latest statistics, Abdul Rahman said the unemployment rate in the country stood at only 3.4 percent, following 360,000 jobs created last year.

He said there was a lot more that could be done to involve Bumiputera in generating the nation’s economy, and that the government will continue efforts to empower them so they could be exposed to more opportunities in future.

Meanwhile on the event, the roadshow co-organised by National Entrepreneurship Institute (Insken), Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and Yayasan Sabah group, aims to provide a platform for the people to seek business and entrepreneurship advice.

Abdul Rahman said the programme is a continuation of the Halatuju in transforming economic opportunities for Bumiputera as well as to engage with local communities through the three components of education, employment and entrepreneurship.
