2 of 3 escaped Kampung Selamat Cure and Care Rehabilitation Centre inmates recaptured

KEPALA BATAS: Two of the three inmates, who escaped from the Kampung Selamat Cure and Care Rehabilitation Centre (CCRC) earlier this week, have been recaptured.

National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) sources said the two were arrested at 7am today in Pinang Tunggal here.

The authorities believe the third inmate is still nearby.

In the 6.30am incident on Wednesday, the inmates escaped by climbing a 3m-high barbed wire fence.

Seberang Prai Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the centre realised the trio – aged 35, 37 and 52 – were missing about 7am that day.

They were admitted to the centre about two months ago.

“They were wearing red T-shirts with the words ‘Kampung Selamat CCRC’ and dark blue track bottoms,” he said.

The K-9 unit from the state police headquarters tracked them from the gate of the centreto the border of Padang Serai, Kedah.

“We have asked the Kulim and Kuala Muda district police headquarters in Kedah to help track the remaining inmate,” he said.
