Terengganu government helps baby get urgent surgery

KUALA LUMPUR: Ten-month-old Faris Wafiuddin Faris Irwan, who has liver damage (biliary atresia), will get the medical attention he needs, thanks to Tabung Darul Iman's donation of RM200,000.

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the state would cover the infant’s surgery costs through its welfare fund, Tabung Darul Iman.

The surgery, which costs RM250,000, will be conducted in Renji Hospital in Shanghai, soon.

“Every year we spend about RM1 million to help the people of Terengganu who have health problems. After I was informed by one of our elected representatives (about Faris Wafiuddin’s condition), we agreed to assist the boy who needed immediate surgery to treat his illness,” Razif said when met at the University Malaya Medical Centre today.

Earlier, he handed over a cheque for RM200,000 to the infant’s 39-year-old mother, Siti Rokiah Abd Wahab, who would be accompanying her youngest son to Shanghai.

Razif said the aid would not stop there and his office would continue to monitor the expenses needed for the boy and his mother in Shanghai.

Meanwhile, Siti Rokiah said she was grateful to Malaysians who contributed to her son's surgery.

She said that only God can return the good deeds of those who helped her family in prayer and donations.

She also hoped that with the help of the Terengganu government, all children who have serious illnesses can be cured.
