Two Indonesian fishermen die after getting entangled in fishing net

KOTA KINABALU: Two Indonesian fishermen died after they got entangled in a trawl net on board a fishing trawler off Mengalum island yesterday.

The victims; Muhammad Mansur and Gading Abdullah, both 31, were pronounced dead upon arrival at the Sabah Fish Marketing Sdn Bhd (Safma) jetty here. Their bodies were then taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for post mortem last night.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said police received the information from the trawler owner at 5pm.

"Based on our investigation, the first victim got trapped while feeding the fishing net into a winch. The second man tried to help him but got himself entangled as well," he said when contacted.

Chandra added there was no elements of foul play in the incident.
