Govt seeks additional RM7bil for 2017 budget

KUALA LUMPUR: The government is seeking approval for an additional RM7.12 billion for its expenditure under the 2017 Budget.

In the Supplementary Supply (2017) Bill 2018 tabled by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani for its first reading at the Parliament today, the additional monies were needed to support additional expenditure under the federal budget.

In October 2016, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced an allocation of RM260.8 billion when tabling the 2017 Budget in Dewan Rakyat.

He said the Budget is an increase of 3.4 per cent from the recalibrated 2016 Budget.

The 2017 Budget comprises RM214.8 billion for operational expenditure, RM46 billion for development expenses and an emergency reserve of RM2 billion.
