Najib: Melaka a better state government than Selangor, Penang [NSTTV]

JASIN: Just a week after taking a swipe at Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali in the Dewan Rakyat following the state's water issue, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today again slammed Azmin.

In his speech at Sungai Rambai Tuesday, Najib praised the Melaka state government for its success in administering the state instead of wasting time by playing politics.

He said Melaka has now turned into a successful state that the country can be proud of, thanks to its Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron's leadership.

"The public will be able to evaluate all the positive efforts done by the government. This is because we put emphasis on the people.

"What will happen if we just focus on politicking? For example, a state (Selangor) that is supposed to be more successful than Melaka, can't even handle the water crisis.

"One million people were affected. We can see now that Melaka is better at administering a state (than Selangor)," he said to loud cheers.

Last week, in the Lower House, Azmin had asked on the debt of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

In response, Najib reminded the Gombak member of parliament of the Selangor water woes, which he said is far more critical, compared to the 1MDB debt.

In his speech, the prime minister also trained his guns on the Penang state government, which he said had failed to build more affordable homes.

"You (Penang state government) don't walk the talk. They said they are going to build more affordable housing but Penang only built the tunnel," he said, referring to the proposed RM6.3 billion cross-channel undersea tunnel, which has now become another embarrassing scandal for the DAP-led government.

Najib said this during an event here, where he officially established Sungai Rambai as the first small district in Melaka.

Also present were Najib's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and former Melaka Chief Minister Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam.

The prime minister also announced that the Federal government has approved a RM290 million allocation for flood mitigation projects in four areas in Melaka.

The four areas are Bandar Jasin, Merlimau, Sungai Duyong and Alor Gajah.

Najib also announced that the government will increase the number of streetlights at 194 villages in Melaka this year, where 58,200 residents will reap the benefit.
