Sungai Golok water level hits nine-year high at more than 11m [NSTTV]

KOTA BHARU: The water level in Sungai Golok, here, has reached its highest point in nine years, measuring 11.03 metres (m).

According to the Kelantan Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), the previous highest level recorded for Sungai Golok was 10.84m in 2014.

It said that the rise in the water level is possibly due to continuous rainfall causing the river to overflow.

"This has resulted in flooding in nearby villages," it said last night.

Meanwhile, as of the press time, the website https://publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my recorded that four main rivers in the state have exceeded the danger level, while five rivers have surpassed the warning level, and seven rivers have exceeded the alert level.

The three rivers surpassing the danger level are Sungai Golok in Kampung Jenob, Tanah Merah (25.17m); Sungai Nal in Kuala Krai (26.67m); and Sungai Kelantan in Kuala Krai (26.63m).

Rivers surpassing the warning level include Sungai Semerak in Pasir Puteh (2.38m); Sungai Semerak at Melor Bridge, Bachok (8.24m); Bukit Kwong Dam, Rantau Panjang (17.46m); Sungai Lanas in Air Lanas, Jeli (29.01m); and Sungai Galas in Chegar Lapan, Kuala Krai (37.23m).
