Higher Ed Ministry to launch guidebook on Industrial Revolution 4.0

KUALA LUMPUR: The Higher Education Ministry will launch the “higher education 4.0” guidebook in the next two weeks, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, said the book contains guidelines meant to further enhance Malaysia’s teaching and learning policy to prepare for the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0).

"Currently, 600 educators are being exposed to the IR4.0," he said in reply to additional questions from Datuk Abd Aziz Sheikh Fadzir (BN-Kulim Bandar Baharu) during the Ministers’ Question Time (MQT).

Abd Aziz’s questions were based on findings that 65 per cent of today’s students will face jobs newly-created by the IR4.0.

Idris said the ministry has redesigned higher education by introducing programmes such as the CEO@Faculty Programme; 2u2i – an academic programme based on the concept of spending two years in university and two years in industry; the Integrated Cumulative Grade Point Average (iCGPA); and Gap Year.

"These are to produce holistic graduates who are highly employable," he added.

In reply to Abd Aziz’s question on graduates' marketability rate, Idris said: "Based on the Graduate Detection Review System (SKPG), the rate rose by 4.1 per cent compared to 2013.

"In terms of university graduates, the number stood at 79.1 per cent, while polytechnic graduates are at 94.5 per cent," Idris added.
