KUALA LUMPUR: About 63 housing schemes in Gombak and Ampang district experienced water disruption following a burst pipe on MRR2 near Dataran Ukay in Hulu Klang this morning.
The water disruption which started about 5am affected about 300,000 households. The burst pipe was caused by roadworks done by contractors.
Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) customer services and corporate communications department head, Abdul Raof Ahmad said water was restored in stages since this morning, with only another 33 housing schemes in and around Ampang still experiencing disruption at at 8pm.
It was the second major water disruption experienced by Selangor folks so far, this month.
On March 6 repair works at the Sungai Selangor water treatment plant in Ijok, Selangor caused a similar inconvenience to the people, when a surge vessel system at the plant exploded.
The 5pm incident also left five Syabas and Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor (SPLASH) workers injured.
The water supply disruption had affected 546,000 account holders in 498 areas, which included the two areas affected today. Among the other affected areas were Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Langat.
Raof said water tankers had been dispatched to the affected areas, especially for critical users.
"We are doing all we can to restore the system faster but as of now, the estimated time is by midnight.
Syabas expects a full restoration of the water service at the housing schemes affected by 12 midnight today.
