Federal government to study calls to reopen Wang Kelian Free Flow Zone [NSTTV]

KANGAR: The Federal government will look into proposals to boost economic development in Perlis including reopening the Free Flow Zone at the Malaysia-Thai border in Wang Kelian and developing a logistic hub in Padang Besar.

Zahid, who is also Home Minister said the government acknowledged Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail wishes for the Wang Kelian's Free Flow Zone to be reopened after it was ceased in 2015.

“We acknowledge Tuanku Raja Perlis (Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail) wishes on the reopening of the Free Flow Zone in Wang Kelian…no problem.

“We can fulfill all requests from the state for as long as Barisan Nasional (BN) will achieve 100 per cent win in the 14th General Election (GE14),” he said in his speech when launching the state BN election machinery here today.

Zahid added that the Federal government would also carry out a feasibility study to develop a seaport in Kuala Perlis.

“The government also agrees to carry out feasibility study to upgrade the Kuala Perlis jetty into a seaport.

"We cannot simply approve it because we do not want it to become a ‘white elephant’ project.

Present were Perlis BN chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

Earlier during his speech, Zahid reminded BN leaders in Perlis to avoid sabotaging the party if they are not picked as candidate for the party in the GE14.

He said Perlis is a BN stronghold and the party should be able to retain the three parliamentary seats and wresting the Sanglang and Indera Kayangan state seats that they lost to PKR dan Pas. — Reports by EMBUN MAJID, MOHAMAD MUSTAKIM RAMLI and AIZAT SHARIF
