Higher Ed Ministry launches 4th Industrial Revolution book

KUALA LUMPUR: The Higher Education Ministry has launched its 4th Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) book titled ‘Framing Malaysian Higher Education 4.0: Future-Proof Talents’ in conjunction with the 22nd Malaysian Education Summit here.

Its minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the book would be a benchmark for the public and private institutions, as well as graduates in preparation to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the IR4.0.

"The fourth industrial revolution represents new ways in which disruptive technologies are embedded in our daily experience.

"There is a need to redesign the education system and transform the learning and teaching delivery as well as demand for various sectors to enhance, reskill and upscale talents.

"New approaches such as changing the learning environment, evaluation without examination and various other initiatives are provided in the guideline.

"We want future talents and graduates to adapt to the changes and demands of the revolution. Therefore, the book illustrates that regardless of technological advancement and changes, graduates will be able to overcome this with disruptive innovation and through lifelong learning," he said at the launch ceremony today.

He added that graduates have to be work-ready to stay ahead in the global marketplace and contribute to meet the high work demands.

The book contain four foci, 15 approaches with detailed initiatives and three future-proof attributes as well as nine Malaysian future-proof skills sets in unlocking the 2015-2025 Malaysia Education Blueprint for higher education.

The book can be also downloaded through the Malaysian Higher Education 4.0 (MyHE 4.0) application in available devices.

Meanwhile, the two-day 22nd Malaysian Education Summit, themed "Creating the Right Environment to Enable Quality Education" will discuss key issues and challenges in the nation's education, provide the experts a platform to share the latest education techniques, review issues in education policy, environmental factors, as well as allowing its participants to get answers, learn and to highlight issues in order to improve the education.

Also present at the conference event were Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI) co-founder and chief executive officer Tan Sri Michael Yeoh and chairman Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah.

After the event, Idris witnessed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and University of Cambridge.
