500kg concrete cylinder slides off lorry, crushes Bangladeshi man

KLUANG: A Bangladeshi man was killed when a 500kg concrete cylinder from a lorry broke loose and fell on him at KM60 of Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing yesterday.

The victim, Amir Mahmud, 41, was repairing a broken pipe at the area when he stopped to assist the lorry driver who was about to negotiate a U-turn in the 4.30pm incident.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Laham said while he was controlling the traffic, one of the cylinders on the back of the lorry broke loose, rolled off the lorry and crushed him.

"The victim was standing too close to the lorry and did not have enough time to escape," he said.

Muhamad said Amir, who sustained serious head and body injuries, died on the spot.

His body was taken to Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital for post mortem.

"Further investigation will be carried out to identify the cause of the incident, including possible negligence." he said.
