Before TV set, residents hurl rocks, wood, tiles and rubbish from Ampang apartment

KUALA LUMPUR: Prior to the television set incident, residents of Taman Seri Intan apartment have seen their fair share of items 'flying' from the upper floors ranging from rocks to wood, tiles and rubbish.

Throwing unwanted items here seems to be such common occurrence that the joint management body (JMB) said it is an uphill battle trying to curb the menace.

Its chairman Adnan Yahaya said the problem can only go way if residents and tenants change their mindset and attitude when it comes to throwing rubbish.

"It is a very difficult problem for us (JMB) to deal with, because this is closely related to the mentality and attitude of the person themselves,"

He was commenting on the Friday incident where a 10kg television set, thrown from one of the upper floor units, damaged a parked Perodua MyVi below.

In highlighting the seriousness of the problem, Adnan said this was not the first 'big' incident at the apartment.

Three years ago, he said a Myanmar national went into coma after he was hit by a large stone flung by an unknown individual from the upper floors.

"Residents are at risk of being hit by objects almost every day," he said.

“Before this, a lot of vehicles have also been damaged by falling objects but this is by far the worse."

He said the JMB had submitted numerous complaints to the relevant parties but no action has been taken.

Recalling the incident, Adnan said the owner of the television set had been reprimanded several times for placing it at the corridor in front of his unit.

"What I wish is this (the incident) will be a lesson to all the people here," he said.

Following the incident, Adnan said the JMB has tightened the rules with regrads to placing unwanted items at the corridor.

"We will take a photograph of the unwanted item and the unit involved. It will also be marked.

"If we found the item being thrown haphazardly, we will take the matter to the police.

"This may seem drastic, but it needs to be done." he said.
